A brilliant knock from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and spells from Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav set up India’s 7-wicket victory against Zimbabwe on July 23 at Harare.

The 15-year old prodigy smashed a 19-ball fifty after Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav’s destructive spells guided the Men in Blues to end their losing streak in the short format.

After choosing to bowl first, India gained the upper hand by dismissing the top order in the power play.

Brian Bennett and Ben Curran opened the innings while Mayank Yadav opened the bowling attack.

The pacer picked the wicket of Bennett on a golden duck of the innings, while Prince Yadav bagged the wicket of Ben Curran for 10 runs.

Mayank Yadav bagged his second wicket, dismissing Dion Myers for 6 runs. With Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl at the crease, Zimbabwe scored 26 runs in the power play.

With the dismissal of Raza, Ryan Burl, Wessly Madhevere, and Tadiwanashe Marumani tried to stabilise the innings with some contribution. However, Zimbabwe lost seven wickets for 125 runs in their 20-over innings.

Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav bagged two wickets each, while Shivam Dube and Ravi Bishnoi bagged one wicket each.

Chasing the 126-run target, Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi opened the innings while Muzarabani opened the bowling attack.

Muzarabani bagged the wicket of Abhishek Sharma for 1 run. However, a decent partnership from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ishan Kishan set up India to post 66 runs in the powerplay.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed his maiden international fifty off 19 balls. Ngarava bagged the wicket of Suryavanshi on the next ball, while Ishan Kishan added 35 runs before his dismissal by Muzarabani.

With Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma at the crease, India clinched a 7-wicket victory in the 14th over. Iyer remained unbeaten with 28* runs off 24 deliveries while Tilak Varma scored 6* runs by the end of the game.

Mayank Yadav was named Player of the Match. Speaking on the post-match presentation, Mayank said, ” It feels great to contribute to the country in a win. It’s a great feeling, especially coming back after a very long interval. It’s a very special moment for me.”
