Shreyas Iyer isn't one to sugarcoat, but he's also not one to dwell on defeat. After a winless white-ball campaign in England and Ireland, India's new T20I captain is choosing to see the bigger picture.

"We had a rough patch, but there were a lot of positives," Iyer said on the eve of the Zimbabwe series opener. "We got to know what we need to build presence of mind, awareness, adaptability."

Rather than let the results crush morale, Iyer believes the tough tour has actually strengthened the dressing room bond. "The results didn't go our way, but that brought the team closer," he said. "We've had a lot of discussions about how to play as a unit going forward."

His message to the young squad is simple: don't fear failure. "When you have that fear at the back of your mind, you play to save yourself. When you don't, you get the best out of yourself," he stressed, adding that outside noise should never dictate their approach.

With just one practice session before facing Zimbabwe, the schedule is tight, but Iyer sees it as an exciting challenge. "If you perform well in these situations, you'll be happy with yourself," he said.

And he's not taking the hosts lightly. "They have a good lineup; a couple of them have played in the IPL, so they carry immense experience." For Iyer, this series isn't just about winning; it's about building a mindset that can weather any storm.
