Delhi: Australian cricket team's Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has revealed the secret behind the success of the Kangaroos in ICC tournaments. Under Cummins' captaincy, Australia won two ICC titles in 2023. In fact, Cummins is the only captain in the history of cricket to win two ICC titles in the same year. In an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak after leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Cummins said that it is important to strike a balance between mindset and attitude.

Cummins said that the importance of luck cannot be ignored in ICC tournaments. The World Cup winning captain said that Australia looks at the final as a normal match.
Cummins told Sports Tak, “You can't deny luck in winning ICC titles. We spend a lot of time in the final to reduce the pressure, but at the same time accept that you play the way you wanted to play. We have been successful to some extent in carrying the confidence of the final into the next match.”
When asked which final was more difficult to win, ODI World Cup or WTC, Cummins said that ODI World Cup posed a lot of challenges for India and he was very happy to win the title in foreign conditions.
Cummins said, “In the ODI World Cup, we have to beat every other team. We were playing in Indian conditions, which were completely foreign to us. We had to deal with injuries, deal with form, so a lot of things had to come together and it all came together in the final and you know, that's what makes it satisfying. It's not easy.”
Is Australia among the strong contenders?
The ICC T20 World Cup is set to begin a week later and Cummins said even though Australia are not among the favourites, the team is going in with a lot of confidence.
Cummins said, “I am not sure we are the favorites. We are one of the better teams that are coming into the tournament with some form. Confidence is a big thing in T20 cricket and we will try to give our best in it.”
