Bangladesh endured the worst possible start to their two-match Test tour of Australia as Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side was bowled out for a mere 54 in the second innings against Cricket Australia XI. They lost the game by an innings and 38 runs. The 22-year-old left-arm seamer Campbell Thompson was the chief destroyer with the ball. 

Thompson bowled 11 overs and took eight wickets for 25 runs to end the game with match figures of 9/51.

The pacer dismissed Shadman Islam and former skipper Mominul Haque for six runs each. He then got the wickets of Soumya Sarkar for five runs and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim for just two runs. 

His fifth wicket arrived when he had Tanzid Hasan LBW for 22 runs from 41 balls with two boundaries and a six. Tanzid was the only Bangladeshi batter to reach double figures.

Corey Rocchiolli, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, then dismissed Amite Hasan for four runs. The off-spinner also got the scalp of first-innings centurion Mehidy Hasan Miraz for six runs. 

The young seamer then ended the game with three quick wickets, first getting rid of Shanto for a duck. He then castled Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain as the home team wrapped up the game. It was a disappointing performance by the visiting side, who is set to take on Australia in a Test series Down Under for the first time in 23 years. 

Teague Wyllie century earns CA XI decent lead 

After bowling out the visiting side for just 263 in the first innings, the hosts managed to reach 355 in their first essay. Former Australian batter and CA XI skipper Kurtis Patterson batted well to score 53 runs. Jack Clayton, batting at five, scored 48 runs from 58 balls with six boundaries and a six. 

The star with the bat for the home side was 22-year-old Teague Wyllie, who amassed 130 runs from 177 balls with 16 hits to the fence.

Wicketkeeper Jake Doran provided good support with his knock of 76, which came off 102 balls. Hasan Mahmud picked up four wickets while Taskin and Mehidy took two wickets each. 

Pat Cummins would have keenly watched the performance of Campbell, who troubled the Bangladesh batters with his pace and bounce. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, in particular, will be licking their lips in delight as the two sides lock horns in the opening game of the series on 13th August in Darwin.
