Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has opened up on his tough phase after the ICC World Cup 2023. After a memorable performance, the right-handed batter failed in the Test series against England and was dropped mid-way.

He complained of pain in his back and told the management of Mumbai that he wouldn’t be available for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India didn’t listen to him and the star player was not offered a central contract.

Shreyas is in a better space as his IPL franchise as KKR are in the final of the Indian Premier League 2024. He will lead the two-time champions against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the mega match on May 26.

“I was struggling in the longest format after the ICC World Cup. When I informed about my concern, no one was agreeing to it. I feel I was only competing with myself.

“When IPL started, I wanted to give my best. We wanted to execute our plans to the best of our ability and we managed to achieve what we wanted,” Shreyas Iyer said.

In 13 matches of IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer has scored 345 runs at a strike rate of 146.19. He also lauded KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir for inspiring players.
