Sarfaraz Khan has been named as Sai Sudharsan’s replacement for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. He will join the squad ahead of the series opener in Galle, starting August 15.
Sarfaraz has been a part of six Tests, with his previous outing coming in the 2024 home series against New Zealand. He has been recalled after an impressive performance in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, where he amassed 429 runs from nine innings at an average of 53.62.

Sarfaraz has also been named in the West Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2026, starting from August 23. The final of the domestic tournament will be played on September 10, a part of which clashes with the red-ball games in Sri Lanka as the WTC bilateral assignment starts from August 15 and finishes on August 27.
He was ruled out of the previous edition due to injury after being named in the squad. The right-handed batter has played cricket since representing the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2026.With Sudharsan set to miss the series, Devdutt Padikkal is confirmed to take his place in the playing XI, having scored an impressive century for India in the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah was also deemed unfit to take the field after his knee injury was found to be more serious.
