Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has responded positively to the growing calls for his return to India’s squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup, keeping the door open for a comeback.

The fast bowler had an impressive campaign in the IPL 2026 season, playing a key role in RCB’s second title in the tournament’s history. He picked 28 wickets in 17 games with an economy of 8.

Having played in 121 ODI games, he picked a total of 141 wickets, while picking up 63 wickets in 21 tests. In T20I games, he picked 90 wickets out of 87 games, making an invaluable contribution to Indian cricket.

He became handy in the powerplay and ability to turn the game, drawing notice from several calls for him to be reinstated in India’s white-ball set-up.

However, considering his age (37) at the time of the 2027 ODI World Cup has raised concerns about his inclusion.

While asked about whether he’s missing the India blue jersey or if he was eyeing the 2027 ODI World Cup, the right-arm pacer said, “What everyone is saying is their opinion,” Kumar said.

“My job is simply to play cricket. I didn’t come here with the sole aim of doing well or advancing to the next level, and as I’ve said before, I love the game, and playing is my passion, which is why I play.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been out of the ODI set-up since 2022, and his last international test appearance came in 2018.

However, the 36-year old remains one of the most experienced cricketers and continues to remain a key figure in Indian domestic cricket.

Playing for Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has picked 231 wickets in 72 Ranji Trophy games, and his last Ranji Game comes from 2024 against Mumbai.

Anyways, he needed to get as much game time as possible, and impress selectors with his tactics and age for considering him for the selection.

While asked about his possible participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, Bhuvneshwar said there was still time before making a decision.

“First-class cricket is a big season. Many fast bowlers got injured, and the lack of bowlers was visible. Through the speed hunt, we have found a bunch of pace bowlers from across the state. They were also seen in the UPT20 league, and one of the scouted players became the uncapped highest bidder in the mini auction.

Through this initiative, UPCA will nurture young pace talent. It will help in the domestic season,” said Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
