Delhi: The first match of the two-Test series between Sri Lanka and India will be played in Galle from August 15. Before the match, there is intense discussion regarding the playing XI of Team India. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has chosen his playing XI of his choice for the first test. Aakash Chopra has included three spinners in his team. At the same time, an experienced batsman like Sarfaraz Khan has been kept out of the playing XI.
Aakash Chopra has chosen KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to start the innings. Both the batsmen have experience of handling the innings in Test cricket. Seeing Rahul's experience and Jaiswal's aggressive style, Chopra has expressed confidence in this pair.
Aakash Chopra has chosen Devdutt Padikkal at number-3. Padikkal is close to returning to the Test team after a long time and based on his recent form, Chopra has considered him a better option for this place. After this, captain Shubhman Gill has been placed at number-4 and Rishabh Pant at number-5. Both the players can play an important role in the team's batting.
The biggest discussion in Team India is about the number-6 position. Sarfaraz Khan has been called back into the team after Sai Sudarshan got injured. In such a situation, a contest is being considered between Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel. However, Aakash Chopra chose Dhruv Jurel here without much thinking.
According to him, Jurel's playing against spin is a major reason for this decision. The role of spin bowlers can be important in Sri Lanka, in such a situation this quality of Jurel can be useful to the team.
Aakash Chopra has three spinners in his playing XI in the form of Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar and Kuldeep Yadav. Jadeja has been placed at number-7 and Manav Suthar has been placed at number-8. After this, Kuldeep Yadav has got the place at number-9.
Considering the conditions in Galle, the decision to go with three spinners could be very important. Especially as the match progresses, the pitch is expected to provide more help to the spinners.
The responsibility of fast bowling has been given to Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Siraj has a lot of experience in international cricket, while the famous Krishna can trouble the batsmen with his length and bounce. In this way, Chopra has chosen a combination of three spinners and two fast bowlers.
Apart from Sarfaraz Khan, Saransh Jain, Aaqib Nabi and Gurnoor Brar have also not got a place in Aakash Chopra's Playing XI.
