A brilliant knock from Sherfane Rutherford and an impressive spell from Gudakesh Motie have set up Tridents’ thrilling victory against Saint Lucia Kings at St Lucia.
Rutherford fired a quick 61 off 31 deliveries in the rain-affected game while Motie guided the side to defend the target in the clash. With back-to-back wins, Barbados Tridents secured a top spot in the CPL 2026 Points table.
Batting first, Barbados lost the wicket of opener Zachary Carter (2) to Matthew Forde, while de Kock joined Brandon King at the crease.
Quinton de Kock fired a quick 15-ball 38, which included 2 fours and 4 sixes before Roston Chase sent him back to the dugout.
With Brandon King and Rivaldo Clarke at the crease, Barbados Tridents scored 61 runs in the powerplay.
Chase bagged his second wicket, dismissing Brandon King for 39 runs. Rivaldo scored 23 runs, while Sherfane Rutherford smashed fifty and scored 61 runs, which included 3 fours and 5 sixes.
With Chris Green and Daniel Sams at the crease, Barbados Tridents scored 177 runs in 18 overs.
Roston Chase and Shadley bagged two wickets each, while Matthew Forde bagged a wicket during the innings.
Chasing a 178-run target, Johann Jeremiah and Roston Chase opened the innings, and the former was dismissed for 11. Chase added 34 runs before losing his wicket to Gudakesh Motie.
With Jewel Andrew and Ackeem Auguste at the crease, Saint Lucia Kings scored 53 runs in the powerplay.
However, Andrew retired hurt, and Asalanka joined Auguste before being dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for 8 runs.
Auguste stabilised the innings and scored 63 runs before his dismissal by Motie. While Matthew Forde was aiming to complete the clash, the line-up collapsed as they scored 168 for 7 wickets in the 18-over innings and lost the game by 9 runs.
Sherfane Rutherford was named the player of the match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rutherford said, “I want to thank god for this opportunity. I think as an athlete it’s important to focus on recovery – playing a lot of cricket can be tiring, but the one thing I’ve been doing lately has been recovery with a lot of massages and pool.”
