Ravindra Jadeja has become the second Indian cricketer to complete a unique feat of scoring over 4,000 Test runs and taking more than 350 Test wickets, joining the elite company of Kapil Dev. The feat was achieved during the first day of the Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle.

In addition to becoming the second Indian to join Kapil Dev's club, Jadeja also became the fifth Indian bowler to achieve the milestone of 350 Test wickets. Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev, and Harbhajan Singh are some of the Indian cricketers who are in Jadeja's list of remarkable achievements.

Jadeja's achievement has made him one of the most feared all-rounders in the cricket world.

Ravindra Jadeja was on the verge of achieving this unique feat when he took two wickets on Wednesday during the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. Jadeja started the match with 4,095 runs and 348 wickets in 89 Test matches and needed just two more wickets to complete the remarkable achievement.

Ravindra Jadeja's Landmark Wicket in Galle

Ravindra Jadeja recorded his 350th Test wicket on the day when he trapped Keshara Nuwantha leg before a waist-high, back-of-the-hand googly that had drifted away from the striker's pads and ballooned into the air; Shubman Gill had to sprint across to collect the easiest of catches.

Nuwantha was out for two.

The feat placed Jadeja in the company of legends like Kapil Dev, who concluded his Test career with 5248 runs and 434 wickets. Only three other cricketers had achieved the double of recording more than 4000 Test runs and claiming over 350 Test wickets, including Ian Botham (5200 runs and 383 wickets) and Daniel Vettori (4531 runs and 362 wickets), besides Kapil.

Ravindra Jadeja's 350th Test wicket has also made him the third most successful left-arm spinner in Test cricket.

Only Rangana Herath of Sri Lanka (433 wickets) and Daniel Vettori of New Zealand (362 wickets) have more Test wickets than Jadeja, who has so far taken 351 Test wickets at 58.1. His strike rate is also among the best for any left-arm spinner in Test cricket, with Keshav Maharaj being the only other left-arm spinner with a better than 55.7 strike rate and at least 125 wickets in Test cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja had earlier in the innings broken the stubborn resistance of Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who was out for 21.

Bowling around the wicket to the right-handed batsman, Jadeja drew the edge as the ball pitched outside off-stump and wrong-footed de Silva. First slip KL Rahul dropped the catch, but he was on his knees to collect the second chance, as third umpire confirmed that he had his fingers in line with the ball.

That wicket was crucial as it brought the innings to a crucial juncture, as India were five down at lunch.

India made 460 for 9 in their first innings as a gritty half-century by Devdutt Padikkal (167) set the foundation for the modest total, with Jadeja scoring only 13 runs from 25 balls before falling to Keshara Nuwantha.
