The batter Dinesh Chandimal has sustained an injury to his right shoulder and neck while diving to prevent a boundary on day 04 of the first test of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2026.
He seemed to be in immediate discomfort, clutching his neck region while remaining on the ground. He eventually got to his feet and walked into the dressing room. He was replaced by substitute fielder Pasindu Sooriyabandara on the field.
The 36-year-old was attended to by the team physiotherapist and doctor on the field before being taken to hospital for a scan as a precautionary measure.
The Statement from Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that he was assessed by the team physiotherapist and doctor on the ground before being taken to hospital for a precautionary scan.
Further updates will be provided after the arrival of the scan results arrive. “Dinesh Chandimal sustained an injury to his right shoulder and neck while diving to prevent a boundary while fielding during the first session of day 4,” said a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket.

Dinesh Chandimal scored only 4 in the first innings as visitors secured a 178-run lead against hosts. Despite a century from Sonal Dinusha and 80 from Niroshan Dickwella, Sri Lanka could not keep up with India as the visitors are aiming to set up a high target before they declare their innings.

Apart from the long format, he has played 157 ODIs and 69 T20Is, scoring 3854 and 1066 runs, respectively.
On the other hand, India will be aiming to extend the lead before entering the final day of the Galle Test.
