Former England batter Sir Geoffrey Boycott was recently active on his social media handle. The 85-year-old responded to a tweet by Wisden highlighting Ravindra Jadeja’s massive achievement on Monday. The Indian star became the 4th player to take 350 Test wickets and also score over 4000 runs.
Boycott replied to the tweet and wrote, “My favourite present-day cricketer.” That tweet had over 75k views with over 1.7K likes and plenty of replies. Kapil Dev, Sir Ian Botham, and Daniel Vettori are the other players to have achieved this colossal feat before Jadeja.
In another tweet one fan asked the veteran to comment on Bangladesh beating Australia in Darwin, to which he replied “Fantastic. England should have beaten them and should beat them next year.”
In 2025, when Shubman Gill‘s side visited England, thelegendary batter had expressed his hope to meet the India star. Boycott complimented Jadeja and spoke highly about his batting, bowling and electric fielding.
The left-arm spinner is fifth on the all-time leading wicket-takers list for Team India.
Anil Kumble – 619 wickets
Ravichandran Ashwin – 537 wickets
Kapil Dev – 434 wickets
Harbhajan Singh – 417 wickets
Ravindra Jadeja – 351* wickets
The Yorkshire legend played the game for nearly 25 years. He made his Test debut in 1964 against Australia and scored 48 in the only innings he batted.
His best Test score of 246 not out came against India in 1967 in front of his home fans. Boycott batted for 555 balls as he hit 30 fours and a six in his knock as England scored 550 and then won the game by six wickets.
He also played 36 ODI games for his national side, amassing 1082 runs with a solitary ton and nine fifties.
Post his retirement, the legend became a commentator and analyst. It was Boycott who named Sourav Ganguly as the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ during his commentary stint featuring the Indian side.
