India coach Gautam Gambhir was clearly frustrated as spinner Ravindra Jadeja's no-ball denied his team a vital wicket on Day 4 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Tuesday.

Jadeja seemed to have bowled the best delivery of his career as Dhananjaya de Silva edged the sharply turning ball to first slip.

India's joy was, however, short-lived as the umpire ruled that Jadeja had overstepped and bowled a no-ball. Gambhir was quick to show his disappointment, although the home side eventually snatched four wickets before stumps.

Sri Lanka lost four wickets while chasing down a huge total of 372 in the last session.

Sonal Dinusha, who remained unbeaten on 25 in the first innings, was on 25 not out at the tea interval. Meanwhile, the captain Dhananjaya de Silva was batting on 31. In the second innings, Sri Lanka needs another 288 runs to achieve what would be a remarkable chase at Galle.

India started day four on 178 ahead and aiming to post a big total. However, their hopes were shattered right at the beginning when opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was clean bowled by Asitha Fernando in the first over.

KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal then steadied the innings, adding 65 runs for the second wicket. However, they were broken by Prabath Jayasuriya when he removed KL Rahul for 35 runs. Rahul played a capital innings, hitting two fours and two sixes.

Jayasuriya struck again soon after by getting Shubman Gill LBW for a duck. Rishabh Pant then joined the innings in the 18th over and took a liking to the bat. He and Padikkal then accelerated the innings, but India were soon halted when Padikkal was out for 44.

Pant then took charge and added 54 runs with Jadeja before falling for a quickfire 66 off 69 balls.

He hit eight fours and two sixes during his stay in the middle. Pant also became the first Indian to score a century with sixes in Test cricket.

However, India failed to add more runs after Pant's departure as the tail-ender failed to contribute significantly. In the end, India were all out inside 49 overs for 193. In reply, Sri Lanka needed 372 runs to win the match.

Chasing down the total, Sri Lanka lost two wickets inside the first hour. Manav Suthar took two wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took one each as the visitors were placed at 84/4 at the tea interval.

At stumps, India needed six more wickets while Sri Lanka needed 288 more runs. Meanwhile, the home team was hoping to last out the three sessions and draw the match at Galle.
