A stunning performance from Manav Suthar and Devdutt Padikkal has set up India’s massive win against Sri Lanka in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.

Padikkal’s 167-run knock in the first innings and the spin-bowling all-rounder’s 10-wicket haul played a crucial role in India’s 165-run victory and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

Despite securing a win, India retained their fifth spot in the WTC 2025-27 points table. Despite the match being interrupted by rain, Shubman Gill-led India cricket team secured a clinical victory.

Opting to bat first, India went on to post a massive score, with the help of Devdutt Padikkal’s stunning knock while playing at No.3, smashing 167 runs in the opening innings to power India to a commanding total of 462.

After Sri Lanka scored 284 runs, India went on to set a 372-run target after Rishabh Pant’s blazing half-century and also broke the record as the fastest batter to reach 100 Test sixes.

While Padikkal excelled with the batting department, Manav Suthar’s clinical bowling helped India’s bowling attack maintain its dominance and eventually seal a key victory in the Galle Test.

Following their win, India improved their points percentage to 53.33 with 64 points after five wins, four losses and a draw.

Shubman Gill-led side is behind Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh. India have another test match in the ongoing series before facing New Zealand for a two-match test series in October and a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia at home in 2027.

The second test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played between August 23 and 27 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground (SSC) in Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo.
