History was made in Galle on Tuesday during the first IND vs SL Test match. Rishabh Pant hit three sixes during his knock of 66 runs and became the first Indian to smash 100 sixes in Test cricket. The player reached the feat in just 51 Tests and 89 innings, making him the fastest batter to the landmark.

Former Indian pacer Dodda Ganesh took to his X handle and called the youngster a genius in the Test format. Ganesh wrote, “Nostalgia is great. But I don’t think India have had a better WK-batsman than Rishabh Pant in the tests. The kind of impact he has had in his career spanning 50 tests and the number of tests he has won with his bat is on par with some of the great batters of the past. Pant is a genius in this format.”

The left-handed batter made his Test debut on 18th August 2018 and hit England spinner Adil Rashid for a six to get off the mark. The batter celebrated eight years in a format where he has been successful as a player. Rishabh plays one format after being ignored for white-ball cricket. He hit Lahiru Kumara for a huge six that went into the stands over the long-off region. Pant then hit the same bowler for another maximum to not only bring up 100 sixes in Test cricket but also score another fifty.

Is Rishabh Pant India’s best wicket-keeper?

In terms of runs, MS Dhoni still leads the list with 4876 from 90 Tests. The current stumper is slowly catching up with 3662 runs from 51 games, and the way he is going, Dhoni’s run-tally could be overtaken in the next few years.

Pant has hit eight centuries compared to the six tons hit by the former India captain. MSD does lead the list, but it is only a matter of time before Pant dominates the charts and challenges his former teammate to become the best India wicket-keeper batter of all time.
