Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was left livid after colliding with Bangladesh batsman Taskin Ahmed, denying him a difficult catch during the second Test on Saturday.
The incident happened in the 28th over of Bangladesh's innings as the visitors were reeling at 38/8. Taskin tried to pull Hazlewood's short delivery but pulled it badly as the Australian paceman came charging in. Josh was left visibly upset after the collision, and Taskin Ahmed had managed to drop the ball before he could take the catch.
Josh Hazlewood was instantly charging towards the square-leg umpire and questioning Taskin on whether he had thrown the ball at him on purpose or not.
However, the officials did not take any action, and play continued. It happened on Day one of an extraordinary match, where Starc dismantled Bangladesh's batting order. The left-arm quick bowler removed Shadman Islam with the first ball of the match and ended up with six wickets as Bangladesh were bowled out for a measly 64 runs shortly after lunch.
Australia had batted first after winning the toss, and their skipper Pat Cummins was hopeful that the early conditions would be helpful for fast bowling.
“The wicket looks pretty good, but if there is any moisture in it, it might be this morning,” said Cummins.
And Starc was quick to capitalize on the conditions. Shadman Islam was out in the first over, edging the first ball to Hazlewood in the gully. It turned out to be Starc's fourth wicket in his four Test matches and came in the first over of the match. He followed it up with a wicket in the next over, removing Tanzid Hasan.
Starc trapped Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto leg before in the third over.
Bangladesh's top order failed to deal with the Australian pace attack. Mominul Haque was the only opener to record a run on the board, scoring 9 before he was caught in the mid-wicket by Cameron Green.
Starc then removed Litton Das lbw to complete his fifth wicket in only 10 overs. He wrapped up the innings shortly after lunch with the sixth wicket to finish with incredible figures of 6/12 from 10 overs. Cummins also took three wickets.
It was the lowest first-innings score recorded by Bangladesh, and also the lowest by any away team in Australia since the infamous 36 by South Africa back in 1932.
Shoriful Islam scored the most runs for Bangladesh, with only 14.“Six in the first session, can't beat that. Obviously a little bit of anger,” said Starc while walking off the field at lunch, addressing his wife and telecaster Alyssa Healy.
Bangladesh was shocked to be bowled out for 64, having stunned Australia by winning the toss of the first Test match of the two-match series. However, in the second Test, the visitors were all out for the lowest first-innings score in the shortest time, as Australia's seamers once again left the opposition stranded.
