Indian cricket team had a relatively good day with the bat on day one of the second Test match against Sri Lanka. It was the visitors who batted first after winning the toss at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Wicketkeeper and batter Rishabh Pant’s battles with Lahiru Kumara which started in Galle continued on Sunday.
The batter went for his now-famous pull across the line but was hit on his arm. Rishabh initially didn’t show any pain but the physio was seen coming to the ground. There was brief halt in play as the 28-year-old was seen getting medical treatment. In the end it was decided that the Indian star wasn’t fit to continue his stint in the middle and made his way off the park not out on three runs.
There are no updates yet from the Indian team management as the player was seen sitting in the dugout. It is unclear if Pant will come out to bat on day two of the game that is to be played on Monday. Last year, the cricketer had injured his foot in the Manchester Test against England walked off the park. He eventually came back to huge applause from the crowd and reached his fifty.
India lost the wicket of KL Rahul early for 18 runs caught by Niroshan Dickwella off Lahiru Kumara. Second wicket to fall was that of Yashasvi Jaiswal who was bowled by Asitha Fernando for 45 runs.
Shubman Gill and Devdutt Padikkal batted well and put up a century plus stand for the third wicket. Gill was out for 50 to give Fernando his second wicket of the day and the pacer got his third of the day when he castled Ravindra Jadeja for 43 in the last over of the day.
Star for India was Padikkal who scored his second ton in as many games. The left-handed batter looked assured as he showed his class. He reached his ton with a single in the final ball of the 70th over. Keshara Nuwantha ended that knock when he castled the centurion for 117 runs which came off 193 balls.
Team India ended the day with the score reading 300 for five from 85 overs. Dhruv Jurel was batting on seven runs from 21 balls. Saransh Jain who made his debut was batting on four runs off five balls.
