Here we are for the second day of the IND vs SL contest which is taking place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Day one was action packed with amazing cricketing action and the coming together of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando which has left the world talking.

Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first and it paid rich dividends as the team reached 300 for the loss of five wickets from 85 overs. KL Rahul was the first man out when he tried to slash the ball and only managed to give Lahiru Kumara his first wicket.

Jaiswal was looking his busy and aggressive self before his innings was ended by Fernando and what followed wasn’t pretty. Gill came out and batted with authority and timed the ball well to reach his fifty before he was dismissed just before tea.

Devdutt Padikkal yet again was the best batter for the Indian side as he scored 117 runs from 193 balls. 26-year-old’s current form with the bat has all but sealed his place in the team for the New Zealand tour.

Ravindra Jadeja batted well to reach before an error in judgment saw the batter leave the ball and get castled. Fernando who bowled with a lot of fire, has so far picked three wickets for his team.

What can we expect on Day two of Colombo Test?

Firstly the new ball is just five overs old and the batters will have to make sure they see out the first session of the day. Dhruv Jurel is at the crease with Saransh Jain and the right-handed batter would have to mix caution with aggression.

Rishabh Pant’s injury meant that he had to go out of the field, the team management and Indian fans across the world will want him to come back and bat. Decent contribution from Pant could take India to a good total.

Finally, the team will hope to reach somewhere close to 400 or even go past it to put the Sri Lankans under pressure. Remember, the pitch is known to be a batting paradise in the first few days of the game.
