Rishabh Pant achieved a brilliant feat on the second day of the second Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. Pant, who had retired after suffering a hand injury on the first day, returned to the field on the second day and by completing a half-century, broke the record of former Indian captain and wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The second Test between India and Sri Lanka has started from 23 August. Team India has already taken a 1-0 lead by winning the first match of the series. On the first day of the second test, the Indian team had scored 300 runs at the loss of five wickets. Devdutt Padikkal performed brilliantly by scoring a century in the second consecutive test.

However, on the first day, the Indian team got a shock when the ball hit Rishabh Pant’s hand. Pant, who got injured while trying to hit a six, was retired hurt after scoring three runs in 15 balls.

Pant returned to the field on the second day

After the early dismissal of Saransh Jain on the second day, Rishabh Pant came on the field to bat again. Despite the injury, he batted carefully and completed his half-century. During this time, he made the record of becoming the Indian wicket-keeper batsman who scored the most Test runs on foreign and neutral grounds.

Pant achieved this feat in his 36th Test, whereas it took 48 Test matches for Mahendra Singh Dhoni to reach this milestone.

Pant became number-1 by breaking Dhoni’s record

Rishabh Pant has now scored more than 2500 runs in 64 innings in away and neutral test matches. During this period his batting average has been more than 41.

At the same time, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had scored 2496 runs in 83 innings of 48 away and neutral Test matches at an average of more than 32.84. Pant has secured the first position in this list, leaving Dhoni behind.

Pant’s excellent record even on foreign soil

Rishabh Pant is also at the top among the Indian batsmen who have scored the most centuries in Test cricket on foreign grounds. He has scored six Test centuries so far outside India. Pant has made a special place in Indian Test cricket on the basis of his aggressive batting and wicket-keeping.

However, Pant is still behind Mahendra Singh Dhoni in terms of total runs scored in Test cricket. Dhoni is at the top among Indian wicketkeeper batsmen in terms of scoring the most runs in Test cricket.
