The 29-year-old pace bowler Auqib Nabi was drafted into the Indian squad for the recent Test series against Sri Lanka. Jammu and Kashmir seamer, who took 60 wickets in the last season of the Ranji Trophy, didn’t get a chance to make his debut. He was sent as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, who was injured before the tour.

As per PTI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is trying to find a county team for Auqib. The move is aimed at giving the pacer much-needed match practice ahead of the New Zealand tour, which starts in October. Shubman Gill’s side will be playing two Tests against the Kiwis.

Surrey are one of the sides that could sign the Indian seamer since they are looking for a cricketer with just a few games left in the season. The 23-time champions are eighth in the points table in the first division with 94 points.

“New Zealand will present a different challenge, but Auqib is in our plans and getting a few games of red-ball cricket in England will help him in preparations,” a BCCI source told PTI. It was also reported that the board is working on getting a visa for the player, and once that is done, the cricketer will head to the UK for a short county stint.
