Vaibhav Sooryavanshi kept raising the records of the 15-year-old at the age of just 15; he etched his name into the history books in East Zone's Duleep Trophy semifinal match against defending champions Central Zone, becoming the youngest to score a half-century in the prestigious domestic tournament, while also temporarily leading East Zone in the absence of his captain Ishan Kishan.

Sooryavanshi put up another typically aggressive innings on Monday, reaching his fifty in just 42 balls in a thrilling knock that saw him hit five fours and three sixes as he took on the Central Zone bowlers.

The youngster was just eight runs away from writing another chapter in the annals of Indian cricket, as he was dismissed for 92, just short of becoming the youngest batsman to score a century in the Duleep Trophy.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks 57-Year-Old Record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached the milestone of 15 years 157 days, which was a record that previously lasted for 57 years. Laxman Singh, who set the record, scored his first Duleep Trophy fifty at age 16 years and 23 days in 1969.

Sooryavnsi, who is currently in the third position on the list, scored a century in a Duleep Trophy match when he was 16 years and 307 days old, in the year 2025.

The teenager's batting came after East Zone's bowlers had done a tremendous job on the opening day. After winning the toss, captain Ishan Kishan chose to bowl first and East Zone's decision paid off as they managed to dismiss Central Zone for 266 in 80.1 overs.

Senior fast bowler Mukesh Kumar and right-arm medium pacer Abhijit Sarkar both took three wickets each, finishing up with figures of 3/56 and 3/38.

Mohammed Shami and off-spinner Md Kounain Quraishi both chipped in with two wickets to complete the innings.

Kishan had to leave the field midway through the morning session after taking a blow to his right wrist, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi taking over as East Zone captain for around an hour on either side of lunch while Kishan was getting treatment. The regular skipper later returned to the field and took over as captain once more.
