Riyadh: Age is like a fine wine for Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese star broke the Saudi Pro League record for most goals scored in a season on Monday. The 39-year-old scored a brace as Al-Nassr defeated Al-Ittihad 4-2 in Riyadh, thus taking his tally to 35 goals. The previous highest goal scorer in a single season was Abderrazak Hamdallah who had 34 goals to his name in 2019, also playing for Al Nassr. The start didn’t come as he would have wanted against Al-Ittihad.

However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner finally broke the shackles when he opened the account for Al-Nassr in the final seconds of the first half. Ronaldo chested down a long pass from Mohammed Al-Fatil before firing a low shot to open the floodgates for Al-Nassr.

He scored his second in the 69th minute, courtesy a corner from Marcelo Brozovic. Ronaldo was substituted five minutes later as he got a standing ovation from home fans. Following his record, Ronaldo also shared a graphic of himself with the caption, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me.”
