Delhi: Former England cricket team captain Eoin Morgan believes that India is the strongest team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the tournament, Morgan said that India has the ability to beat any other team by a good margin.

Morgan, 37, who played the T20 World Cup final in 2016 and won the ODI World Cup with England in 2019, said, “India is the strongest team despite injuries throughout the tournament. There is no doubt about it. Their strength and depth at the moment is incredible and it is almost possible that we are talking about players who were not included in their 15-member squad, because the current players they have are very good.”

He further said, “For me they are the favorites. I think they have strong players. I think they can beat anyone in the tournament.”

India have not fared well in recent editions of the ICC T20 World Cup. In 2021, they were knocked out of the Super 12 stage after consecutive defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand. In the 2022 World Cup, India put up a memorable performance but lost to England in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Speaking in the same discussion, former England batsman Michael Atherton said that it is quite strange that India has not won any World Cup since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Atherton said, “They have not won it since the first World Cup in 2007. It is beyond comprehension, because everyone talks about the IPL and how India's T20 cricket has improved. They won it only before the IPL.”
