Former India player Mohammad Kaif has given last chance reminder to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Kaif said that this is the last chance for the two star players to lift the ICC trophy in white-ball cricket. Virat and Rohit will lead India’s challenge in the the USA and West Indies.
Kaif said that the age factor will play a huge role in Kohli and Sharma’s chances of having another go at winning a global tournament.
“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not play for a long time and they know about it,” Kaif said on Star Sports.
“This is their last chance to lift a coveted trophy. Rohit and Virat missed the chance in 2023 as Australia defeated India in the final of the ODI World Cup. Fans were devastated after that loss,” he added.
The 37-year-old Rohit and 35-year-old Kohli were out of the T20I side for 14 months before returning to the team for the three-match series against Afghanistan.
Kaif mentioned that India’s real test would be in the knockouts of the T20 World Cup. “India can easily win group matches. The real competition would be in the semi-finals and the final,” he concluded.
India will play their first match against Ireland in New York, followed by a big contest against Pakistan on June 9.
