The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 2. India are one of the favourites for the title. However, they are likely to face competition from Australia, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Pakistan.
The batting units will play a crucial role for the top nations in the tournament. Virat Kohli was the top run-getter in 2022, with 296 runs coming from his bat.
Babar Azam and Jos Buttler are also expected to feature on the list of leading run-scorers in the upcoming global event. However, Ambati Rayudu, the former India player, thinks that Rohit Sharma will top the batting charts.
In his conversation with Star Sports, Rayudu took the name of Team India’s skipper. For the record, Sharma has never topped the list in the history of the T20 World Cup.
The 37-year-old has struggled for runs in the recent times. Although he scored more than 400 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024, the right-handed looked rusty throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Virat has scored 1141 runs in 27 matches, the highest in the history of the tournament. Mahela Jayawardene (1016) and Chris Gayle (965) are second and third.
With 963 runs in 39 contests, Rohit is the fourth highest on the list.
